As we move into this year, thank you for being here. The response has been remarkable. To everyone who signed up or reached out to learn more, you made this possible.

This is the first edition of the Claude Builders Club newsletter, where each month we will share what is happening in the club and the Claude news worth knowing. To kick things off, we would love to see you at our first info session.

Claude news this month

Two new models

Fable 5.1 and Mythos 5.1, announced September 1. Same underlying model, different safeguards: Fable 5.1 is generally available, while Mythos 5.1 is limited to trusted access programs, with safeguards built for cybersecurity and life sciences work.

Fable 5.1 is designed for complex, long-running tasks, and its research capabilities offer an early look at how models will contribute to scientific progress. It sets a new standard across Anthropic's benchmarks, and at lower effort levels it matches or beats Fable 5 at much lower cost.

Watermarking

Anything from a Claude product released after August 2 carries machine-readable marking, to satisfy EU AI Act Article 50(2). Older models have until December 2.

Claude has two new browsers

Claude in Chrome is now available on every paid plan, and it now acts autonomously instead of asking permission for each step, with a classifier checking each action against what you asked. The same day, Cowork got a browser inside the desktop app that opens in the side panel and works a site for you. It is Claude's browser, not yours, so it never sees your tabs or passwords.

Memory is shared and editable

Chat and Cowork now use one memory, and Claude adds to it while you chat rather than after. Every memory is a short file under Topics in settings that you can read, edit, or delete. Health, religion, politics, and similar topics stay out unless you opt in.

Also this month

  • Claude Academy launched, and Claude for Teachers became free for US K-12 districts.
  • Claude Tag reads the whole channel instead of one message at a time, about 30% better at knowing when to stay quiet.
  • Claude Security scans now run on Mythos 5 for Enterprise, and a new $35M fund backs open-source security work.
  • Inference hooks (inline DLP), self-hosted Claude Code environments, and Compliance API coverage for Cowork and Claude Code all entered beta.
  • Claude Code: the /design research preview brings editable artboards into the CLI.
  • Claude Code: Remote Control left preview, and your machine now shows up as a device card in the mobile Code tab.
  • Claude Code: sessions continue automatically when a usage limit resets.

We have a new website

We recently rebuilt our website to focus on community building.

Everything we run lives on /events. Date, time, room, and an RSVP button for that specific session.

Check in at /attendance. There is a six-character code on the screen at every session. Enter it with your name and your Northeastern email, and you collect a stamp: eight to a card, a fresh card each term. There is no account and no password, so your email is your card. Use the same address every week, or you have quietly started a second one. The code expires shortly after we start, so check in while you are still in the room.

To understand what our community truly wants, we launched /polls. During a session, we open a ballot: rank the workshops you want, tell us what times actually work, say which socials you would genuinely turn up to.
